This calibre served as a model for the western 7.62 x 51 NATO and was introduced in the former Soviet Union in 1943. Although it has a shorter case length, it however has almost the same ballistic characteristics.
Nowadays, this calibre serves for the hunting-oriented practice shooting or sport shooting. With the GECO Target FMJ with 124 gr bullet this field of application is covered.
