DENIX replica of the Confederate Griswold & Gunnison Revolver, USA 1860
The American Civil War was not only a fight for a certain way of life, rather a conflict between a traditional rural society and a more modern society ready to fully industrialize. That difference in economic power soon became visible in regards to armament and equipment of deployed troops. While the North was able to field guns of mostly own origin, the South needed to tool up to match the rival. So many shops and small businesses were turned into gun manufactering facilities. The Griswold cotton gin factory was one of them! The Griswold & Gunnison Revolver copied the Colt 1851 Navy Revolver, but replaced the material of the frame with brass because of shortage of steel in the south!
