Kei-ben refers to the sword's simple and practical design. The black tsuba features a subtle cutout in the shape of two flowers, and the fuchi and kashira are also finished in simple black.

The Sport of Iaido
The sport of Iaido deals with the art of drawing the sword and predefined attack techniques (katas), but as a formal exercise. The iaito, an unsharpened practice sword, is typically used. The development of the unity of body, mind, and sword (ki-ken-tai-ichi) is paramount. The highest mastery level is achieved when one can master any combat situation without ever drawing the sword. The blunt blades are made of hardened, rust-resistant 420 steel. This allows for a realistic training experience and also results in an easy-to-maintain blade.
